Neighbors hold sit-in to block Ormond Park construction

Posted

Neighbors aren't giving up their fight to save Lansing's Ormond Park, even if it means they have to block construction crews.

The city could start building a driveway through the park as early as Monday. Members of the "Friends of Ormond Park" community group set up camp at the park early Monday morning in case construction crews started working.

The city is building a road through the park to create a new entrance to Groesbeck Golf Course. The project has been stalled for months while the neighborhood group took the city to court. That changed Friday, when an Ingham County judge okayed the project.

Neighbors argue destroying will be unsafe for children and will threaten the environment.
