Michigan utilities say about 50,000 customers have lost power amid high winds in the state.

DTE Energy said 35,000 customers in the southeastern Michigan had no power Thursday afternoon. Consumers Energy reported close to 15,000 customers without service.

The National Weather Service says winds were gusting between 45 and 50 mph.

WOOD-TV reports a woman and her infant child suffered what appeared to be minor injuries when a tree branch fell on top of them about 10:15 a.m. Thursday in Grand Rapids. They were among a group of mothers and children at Riverside Park.

Vic Foerster, an arborist with West Michigan Tree Services who was in the park at the time, says a big gust of wind was followed by a cracking noise.
