East Lansing residents are urged to get out and mingle with their neighbors tonight. It is National Night Out in several communities across Mid-Michigan.

The goal is for neighbors to get to know each other, and police officers so that everyone can work together to better protect their community.

National Night Out in East Lansing is from 6-8 p.m. tonight. It will be held at the East Lansing Public Library on Abbot Road. The event features fun activities for the whole family including a bounce house, balloon artist, popcorn, cotton candy, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and plenty of vehicles for children to explore. Parking for the event will be available on side streets and at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road. The event is free and open to all community members.

In Meridian Township, National Night Out is tonight from 6-9 p.m at the Meridian Township Municipal Building on Marsh Road.

"It takes a group effort to keep our community safe," stated Captain Greg Frenger. "We are so fortunate for everyone's participation and their passion and dedication towards keeping our community a great place to live and raise a family."

In Jackson, city residents will also celebrate National Night Out. The event will be held at Looms Park from 6-8 p.m. There will be free food, face painting, a bounce house, sidewalk chalk, bike giveaways and more.
