New initiatives involving how criminal sexual conduct reports are handled are moving forward in Meridian Township.

At a township board meeting on Tuesday, the Meridian Township Board approved an agreement for consulting with Nassar survivor, Brianne Randall-Gay.

Brianne will lead efforts in the township on Criminal Sexual Conduct training.

"This agreement helps to create a community-wide sexual assault prevention program to better assist children and young adults in preventing and reporting criminal sexual assaults with Brianne leading the way," stated Township Manager Frank Walsh. "My deep concern is that Brianne suffered enough from her experience with our Township and I don't feel it is appropriate to allow her to spend her own resources in assisting us."

The township says protecting the community against sexual predators is a top priority.

The partnership with Brianne is one of three initiatives underway by Meridian Township.

Others include CSC training with all sworn officers. This initial training, offered by the Prosecuting Attorneys of Michigan, will begin in April 2018. The training will include a video segment with Brianne sharing her story.

The agreement between the township and Brianne officially begins this month and ends in March of 2019 for the amount of $30,000.
