U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin will attend the State of the Union address with Larry Nassar survivor and former Michigan State student, Amanda Thomashow.
Thomashow brought her first Title IX case against then-Michigan State sports doctor Larry Nassar in 2014. It was the case that later helped put Nassar behind bars for the large number of women and girls who then came forward as his sexual assault victims.
“I’m proud to be joining Rep. Slotkin at the State of the Union not only to continue the conversation around institutions’ responsibility for preventing and addressing sexual assault head-on, but also to discuss how Congress can push back on attempts to roll back students’ and survivors’ rights and strengthen Title IX protections,” Thomashow said.
She now works as a victims' rights advocate at the Michigan Public Health Institute and with the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board, according to a press release.
“I could not be more proud to be joined at the State of the Union by a woman who has exhibited such leadership and effected real change on an issue directly impacting the 8th district community,” said Slotkin, a Michigan Democrat.
