A new tribute to the Queen of Soul has popped up on Detroit’s west side.

The mural is on Linwood and Euclid, just blocks from New Bethel Baptist Church where Franklin’s father was the pastor.

The Artist Sintex created the 15-foot painting in shades of black and gray, based on a photo from Franklin’s younger years at Columbia Records.

“Just paying homage to her, what she means to the city of Detroit and to all of our households and this area is kind of historical, you know, so I had to do it,” said Sintex.

The mural reads, “Rest in Respect Queen.”

Sintex, a well-known Detroit graffiti artist, finished the painting Sunday.

“Even though she wasn’t here to see it, you know, I’m sure she is here in spirit to see it,” he said.
