LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University Police have identified the woman found dead in a dorm room over Homecoming weekend.

They say her name was Alaina Hopkinson and that she was a freshman at Grand Valley State University, but visiting friends at MSU.

Police say she had a previous medical condition but aren't saying what the cause of death was.

They are reporting that it could take weeks to get the results of the toxicology test.

It happened on Sept. 28.

At about 6 p.m., she was found unresponsive and did not appear to be breathing after taking a nap in one of the residence halls, according to police.

Emergency personnel took her to Sparrow Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

MSU Police says this is an ongoing investigation, and there is not a threat to the MSU community or general public.
