EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University is working on a freshwater recovery system that will turn fracking waste water into irrigation water.
The university received nearly a $3 million grant from the federal government for the project, and is teaming up with Oregon State and the University of Nevada-Reno.
Officials say that finding a way to re-use fracking water is important because the process takes a lot of water.
The new project is aimed at helping states out west recycle the water for crops and livestock.
