The search is on for whoever shot and killed a 22-year-old Michigan State University student at an East Lansing apartment complex around 2:44 a.m. Friday morning.
It happened at 25 East Apartments on Chandler Road, north of Lake Lansing Road.

FOX 47's Alani Letang talked to two students who say they watched the whole thing unfold, who told her it started off with an argument that quickly escalated out of control.

"I was just going to go back to sleep and the next thing I knew someone got thrown onto the bike rack right there and then a lot of physical violence was happening," said Sun Kim, MSU student.

Kim lives right next to the entrance of building seven at 25 East Apartments. Kim said that's where he saw the fight start.

"Then they took the fight to the road and we were just watching it from this little patio here," said Kim.

Haziqah Hayum lives across the parking lot and she heard some of the altercations.

"I heard bang sounds like gunshots. I was like so scared, I just look from the window but I didn't dare to go out of my house," said Haziqah Hayum, MSU student.

Police are not releasing details about the relationship of the people involved, whether the shooter was a student, or what the argument was about. But they do say felonies are not common in the various apartment complexes on Chandler Road.

Most of the trouble is more along the lines of noise complaints and students agree.

"It was a huge surprise. I actually lived almost my entire life in a house down that way, it's a really peaceful area, so I didn't expect this at all," Kim said.

Police said there is no threat to the public because they believe it was an isolated situation.
