A Michigan State University medical resident is behind bars.

Michael Phinn, of Fowlerville, faces multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct.

The 32-year-old worked at Michigan State's Clinical Center, which is where the allegations stem from. But police say the complaints did not come from patients.

The charges include one count of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, three counts of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree, two counts of gross indecency, and four counts of aggravated indecent exposure.

Phinn was suspended from the MSU clinic when the allegations were brought against him on Sept. 25, said university spokeswoman Emily Guerrant.

In addition to his duties at MSU, Phinn also treated patients at Sparrow Hospital and at one time had his EMT license. Records show that license expired in 2014.

"These are serious and concerning allegations and Sparrow Health System pledges its full cooperation with law enforcement authorities," the spokesman of Sparrow, John Foren, said in a statement.

Phinn was placed on unpaid leave as a result of the investigation, according to the statement.

The date for his arraignment has not yet been set.

Anyone who thinks they may be a victim, or who has information regarding this case, is asked to contact Michigan State University Police.
