MSU graduation ceremonies this weekend

Nearly 8,000 Michigan State University Spartans will graduate this weekend.

The convocation for undergraduates takes place Friday at 1 PM at the Breslin Center.

Over 5,000 undergraduates will walk across the stage Friday. It's been a rough year for MSU, but this weekend is a time to celebrate.

The ceremony for graduates receiving advanced degrees will take place at 3:30 Friday afternoon.

Wanda Herndon, a former executive at Starbucks and a geophysicist, will speak during the 1 PM ceremonies Friday. Marcia Mcnutt, the 22nd president of the National Academy of Sciences will be the 
commencement speaker for the advanced degree ceremonies.

MSU has a graduation rate of 79%. Its goal is to raise that rate to 82 percent by 2020.
