MSP: Woman dies after vehicle rear-ended by semi

While stopped waiting to turn from US 127 in Hillsdale county, a woman died when her vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor trailer, Monday afternoon, police say.

The Michigan State Police report they are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of US 127 and Forrister Road in Wheatland Township. The crash happened around 2:50 p.m.

The MSP states the woman, Terry Louise Rupnow, 63, of Hudson, was in a small passenger vehicle stopped at the intersection behind a small SUV driven by an 18-year-old Hudson Woman.

Both vehicles were waiting behind a box truck driven by a 23-year-old man from Addison. The vehicle was facing Southbound on US 127 waiting to turn left onto Forrister Road.

The semi tractor, driven by a 58-year-old man from Hopkins, was traveling southbound on US 127 and rear-ended Rupnow’s vehicle. Her vehicle was then pushed into the rear of the SUV, which rear-ended the box truck.

The MSP reports the 23-year-old Addison man was uninjured, and the driver of the semi tractor was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance wit minor injuries. The 18-year-old Hudson woman and her 33-year-old passenger sought their own treatment at Henry Ford Allegiance for unspecified injuries.

Rupnow, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, the MSP reports.

Assisting troopers on scene were Addison Fire and Rescue, Hundson Fire Department, the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department and Addison EMS.

The MSP states in a release alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, and all occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
