VERNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Michigan State Police say they believe the woman who crashed her car into the side of a moving train full of people was drunk.
The accident happened around 9:15 p.m Thursday at the intersection of Reed and Pittsburg roads in Shiawassee County's Vernon Township. The rural area is southwest of Durand.
Michigan State Police say the woman drove her car into the side of the Amtrak train in the area of the second passenger car.
The train stopped just down the track from the crash scene with minor damage. None of the 100 passengers on board the train were hurt.
Michigan State Police say the woman walked away from the crash that totaled her car.
She was taken to a Flint hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police are investigating the crash as a drunk driving incident.
Police don't believe there was a problem with the operation of the arm at that crossing.
