Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a semi in Clinton County.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Lansing Post were dispatched to Watertown Township for a multiple vehicle traffic crash involving a semi-tractor trailer.

Investigators say an eastbound van collided with the semi on Grand River Avenue near Ingersoll Road around 4:47 p.m. Wednesday.

Initial investigation shows the impact of that crash caused the van to crash into another eastbound vehicle after colliding with the semi, police said.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. Michigan State Police have identified him as a Kent County resident.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the crash, police said.

The driver of the semi did not seek medical treatment and had no apparent injuries, police said.

The driver of the third vehicle involved was treated and released from McLaren Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing by the MSP Lansing Post. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Clinton County Sheriff's Office, Delta Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police 6th District Accident Reconstructionist, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
