MSP: Deadly crashes dropped in 2018

LANSING, Mich. — New data from Michigan State Police shows the number of people killed in accidents went down in 2018 compared to 2017.

According to MSP, there was 313,798 total reported crashes in Michigan in 2018.

974 people were killed in those crashes, according to the data.

That's 54 fewer deaths than in 2017.

MSP says almost half of the deaths involved only one vehicle.

There were also 9,786 alcohol-related crashes last year. MSP says 315 of those crashes were fatal, which was 41 less than in 2017.
