Since February, Michigan State Police troopers within Jackson and Hillsdale counties have been investigating 80 sex offenders that are non-compliant with the Michigan Sex Offender Registration Act. This has brought about the arrest of 27 sex offenders, the MSP reports.

Michigan law requires that sex offenders comply with the Sex Offender Registration Act, and failing to do so can result in criminal prosecution, a MSP press release states. In the area of the MSP Jackson post alone, there is reportedly 96 non-compliant sex offenders.

Troopers are actively investigating the non-compliant sex offenders with residence checks, employment checks, fee violations and following up on tips provided by the public.

Along with the 27 arrests, troops have warrants for 17 additional non-compliant offenders, with another 21 investigations pending review from the prosecutor’s office.

The MSP is urging that registered sex offenders maintain compliance with the act. For registered offenders that have questions about the act, or think they may be non-compliant with the act, they can contact the Jackson Post at 517-780-4580.
