LANSING, Mich. — This week state police across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana are asking for help in identifying potential victims of human trafficking.
Police are focusing on semi drivers because rest areas like the one I'm at right now and hotels are common spots for human traffickers.
State police are teaming up this week with an organization known as "Truckers against trafficking" and Ohio and Indiana state police to spread awareness about human trafficking.
Troopers are handing out cards and brochures to help educate drivers on what to look for and who to call if.
These efforts are all part of January being "National Human Trafficking Awareness Month".
State police say with the problem of human trafficking not going away overnight, educating people in the trucking industry like drivers, rest stop attendants and employees give officers extra eyes and ears on Michigan's highways.
The initiative runs through Friday.
