Motorcyclist seriously hurt in crash involving SUV

ODESSA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WSYM) - A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after crashing into an SUV.

Ionia County Sheriff deputies responded to a car vs. motorcycle accident at the intersection of Lapo Road and West Eaton Highway in Odessa Township at 3:19 p.m.

Deputies say a 2011 Chevy Traverse, driven by a 24-year-old woman from Lake Odessa, was southbound on Lapo Road waiting to turn onto West Eaton Highway when a 2002 Suzuki café’ style motorcycle rear-ended the SUV.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 21-year-old male from Lake Odessa was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital for treatment.

Occupants of the Traverse did not suffer any injuries.

Speed is not believed to be a factor.

The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.

Deputies were assisted by Michigan State Police, Lake Odessa Fire Department, Woodland Fire Department, Life EMS, Ionia County Central Dispatch, and Reed and Hoppes Towing.
