Kalamazoo shooting victim Tiana Carruthers will speak out today for the first time about her recovery.

Carruthers was the first victim shot in the rampage on February 20th as she tried to shield children from a serial killer.

A news conference is scheduled for this afternoon at Borgess Medical Center.

Carruthers is expected to talk about her recovery and thank the community for supporting her.

The 26-year old was one of two survivors in the rampage that left six people dead.

Authorities say Carruthers is a hero. She saved the lives of children on the playground in her apartment complex.

Police say she used her body to shield the children from the gunman who was firing multiple rounds.

Police say alleged killer, Jason Dalton, told them he thought he had killed Carruthers.
