Laura Guild, the mother of Everson Guild, released a statement on Tuesday morning about her son's death.
"The Guild family would like to thank the Grand Ledge community for their continued support through this difficult time. In honor of Everson, the family is requesting the community remember what Everson is about: love, compassion, caring, gratefulness, determination and generosity. We ask that each person try to exemplify one of these traits, in hopes of making the world a better place, as this is what Everson did on a daily basis."
Everson died on Monday after losing consciousness during a workout with freshmen on the Grand Ledge football team. Coaches and staff performed CPR and he was quickly transported to Sparrow hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Medical examiners are still trying to figure out why he lost consciousness.
The superintendent of Grand Ledge Public Schools and head football coach Matt Bird spoke today.
