Local emergency responders are urging people not to drive Monday if at all possible.
Michigan State Police say weather conditions could be so bad on Monday, "Travel may not be possible right away."
Freezing rain and sleet are expected to start late Monday morning.
MSP says you should have three days worth of food and water in case you can't leave the house.
If you do get behind the wheel Monday, you should make sure you have a full tank, keep kitty litter or sand in the car for better tire traction, and keep an emergency preparedness kit in your car.
According to MSP, that emergency preparedness kit should have:
General car safety equipment such as:
--windshield scraper
--flares
--tow strap
--"Help" signs
--jumper cables
--fire extinguisher
Food items such as:
--bottled water
--non-perishable, high energy foods
Emergency items such as:
--emergency contact list
--first aid kit
--blanket
And electronics such as:
--a hand-crank flashlight and radio
--cell phone charger
MSP says if you do get stranded in your car, you should not leave it. You will be better off waiting for help to arrive.
Travelers can check www.michigan.gov/roadconditions and www.michigan.gov/drive to help decide if it is safe to leave the house.
