Missing service dogs found, returned home

Posted

Two service dogs that went missing in November have been found and returned home safely.

According to the dog's owners, the Filas, a man found the dogs and didn't know they were missing and kept them.

The Filas spent hours searching for the two dogs that had gotten out of their yard and ran off.

The dogs were used for the family's daughter who has autism.

"They help calm her down whether it's feeding them, taking them outside to go potty or walking them. It keeps her anxiety under control and with the allergies they know to alert us if she can't breathe or if she's having an allergic reaction," said Dusti Filas.

Filas had even taken her daughter Aubree out for the search as well, in hopes of finding the dogs.

"I've taken Aubree out to drive with me, kind of rolled down the window and had her yell for the dogs. I was hoping maybe just the sounds of her would draw them in or her scent," said Filas.

Not having the dogs has been difficult for Aubree and Filas is worried that they won't come back. "She doesn't want to go to bed. She wants to look for her dogs. She wants her dogs home."

And now they are home.

Dusti Filas posted on Facebook at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday:

"My dogs are home!!! A little thinner than when they left but safe! A gentleman has had them this whole time and didn't know they were being looked for!!!! I am so happy as is my family. Unfortunately I just sold my cages because I didn't think I would ever see them again. So if anyone has a cage for free please let me know! I need two! Thank you!!!!!"
