GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions are forecast for much of Michigan starting late Sunday ahead of a blast of dangerously cold temperatures.
The National Weather Service issued winter storm watches, warnings and advisories for all but southeastern Michigan running from Sunday night through Monday evening.
Four to 6 inches of snow was forecast for Detroit and surrounding areas, with 6 to 8 inches expected north of Flint and up to a foot of snow possible in the state's Thumb region and varying snowfall amounts elsewhere.
Hazardous travel conditions were expected during the Monday morning commute.
Forecasters are predicting life-threatening cold readings to sweep across the state Wednesday, with wind chill readings expected to drop to minus 20 to minus 35 degrees. Those readings could be the coldest since 1996.
