LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Democratic Party announced on Tuesday that Michigan will host a democratic presidential debate.
The debate is set for July 30-31, 2019.
"The road to the White House runs through Michigan, and we are pleased that our partners at the Democratic National Committee have decided to hold one of our party's all-important presidential debates here. The issues we face in Michigan are not confined to our peninsulas. Protecting healthcare, creating good jobs, investing in public education, cleaning up our water, and fighting for hardworking people who want a level playing field are the concerns of all Americans. We believe Michigan is the perfect real-world backdrop for a conversation on how the Democratic Party will work for the people of our country moving forward to solve the critical issues facing us all, including the presidency of Donald Trump."
That statement was delivered on behalf of MDP Chair Lavora Barnes.
They say it will be in Detroit but they haven't announced where, and it will be hosted by CNN.
It will be in prime time on back-to-back nights.
“Detroit embodies the values and character of the Democratic Party,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez. “It’s a city of grit and determination, a city that has gotten knocked down only to get back up stronger. With its diversity, its storied history, and its proud ties to the labor movement, Detroit is the perfect place for our party’s second debate.”
The debate lineups for each night will be determined at random to provide each candidate with a fair opportunity to make his or her case to a large, national audience. Additional details on the venue, moderators, communication accessibility, and timing will be announced at a later date.
“Detroit is one of America’s great cities,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lavora Barnes. “For decades, the Motor City has been a critical pillar of our nation’s economy and an icon of American innovation. And I can’t wait to welcome our amazing Democratic candidates to Michigan as we show the American people that we are truly the party of working people.”
