Michigan State Police respond to Hillsdale County incident involving a gun

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Jackson Post were dispatched to a residence in Allen Township for a threat complaint involving a gun.

A 24-year-old man from Pioneer, Ohio threatened to shoot his girlfriend, friends and himself with his handgun that the victim advised he is known to carry, according to a press release.

The suspect had left the scene prior to police arrival, but later attempted to return to the residence as troopers were investigating. Upon seeing the investigation, the suspect attempted to leave.

When troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle, the suspect fled, according to the press release.

The Hillsdale County Sheriff's Department was able to deploy stop sticks, disabling the vehicle, according to the press release.

The suspect was found dead inside the vehicle of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the release.

Troopers were assisted by members of Hillsdale County Sheriff's Department, Hillsdale City Police Department and Reading Emergency Medical personnel.
