LANSING, Mich. — Michigan's U.S. senators introduced a bill Tuesday that would make research funding in the Great Lakes on par with funding for the saltwater coasts.
The bill from Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters would give up to $17.5 million per year to the U.S. Geological Survey, so it could study fish and invasive species in the Great Lakes.
The fishing industry in the Great Lakes brings in $7 billion per year.
