A post on a state senator's Facebook referring to violence in Detroit is sparking controversy on the social media platform.
"I'm headed to Detroit for a meeting today. Before anyone asks: Yes I have a CPL," Sen. Rick Jones wrote in a Facebook status he posted Tuesday.
CPL stands for concealed pistol license. Some people left comments criticizing Jones. He responded by saying everyone should be prepared to defend themselves.

Police in Detroit are investigating two separate shootings that wounded three people before and after a fireworks show Monday night.
A 47-year-old woman was shot in the hip during a confrontation between two groups of people. She was listed in stable condition.
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen, and a 17-year-old girl was grazed while sitting in a car downtown. Their wounds were not considered life-threatening. No arrests have been made.
