LANSING, Mich. — Sales are down for Michigan retailers.

This comes after Michigan retailers reported the strength in sales in the state at 42.1%, which is 4% decrease from a year ago. That number is also down 7% from last month.

The 100-point index is a snapshot of the state's overall retail industry.

When the index is above 50, that's generally good news for retailers.

The higher the number means the stronger the sales.
