Michigan reports 7,341 new COVID-19 cases, 254 deaths over 3-day span

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan reported 7,341 new cases of COVID-19 and 254 deaths over a three-day span, the state confirmed Saturday.

Saturday's coronavirus update from the state Department of Health and Human Services is a three-day total including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Officials say over the three days – Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the average number of new confirmed cases is 2,447 per day.

Additionally, the deaths announced Saturday includes 188 deaths identified during a Vital Records review, according to the state.

The total confirmed COVID-19 cases hit 477,269, while total deaths reached 12,029 in the state. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's ban on indoor restaurant dining remains in place through Jan. 15.

As of Dec. 23, a cumulative total of 318,389 people have recovered from the virus in Michigan.
