LANSING, Mich. — There are 171,220 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 7,298 deaths in Michigan, the state reported Thursday.

That's up 3,675 cases and 41 deaths from the day before. This is the highest single-day case increase reported by the state. However, the state says a technical issue delayed they getting the data until after the normal 10:00 a.m. cutoff time for reports. That resulted in some cases that would have been reported tomorrow being included in today's report.

The 41 deaths reported today include 22 that were identified during a Vital Records review.

114,939 people have recovered from the virus.

Today's report comes after state health officials tightened some coronavirus restrictions in response to the rising number of cases.
