A Michigan man has published his own obituary and scheduled his own memorial service after stopping his cancer treatment.
The Grand Rapids Pressreports that 80-year-old Bob Eleveld announced this week that he will host a "celebration of life" open house this Saturday in lieu of a funeral. Eleveld also published an obituary with the date range "8/3/1936 - Not Yet."
Eleveld is a local Grand Rapids attorney who has also been involved in politics as a local Republican Party chairman, a state representative candidate and a member of the East Grand Rapids City Commission.
A rare form of leukemia first appeared on him August 2014. Eleveld began treatment in May 2015, but has now stopped.
Eleveld's daughter Kerry says her father wants to "celebrate the time he has had with people."
