11 puppies rescued from underground in the backyard of a Detroit area home.

The Michigan Humane Society says the hole was dug by the puppies' mother.

They say they were worried the puppies wouldn't survive if heavy rains came in and flooded the hole, so rescue teams worked to pull each of the puppies out.

The first few came out easily, but they had to carefully dig and put out wet dog food to try and lure the rest out. After about a half hour all eleven puppies were removed from the hole.

The dogs were taken back to the Humane Society to be cleaned up vaccinated and fed.

The Humane Society says they will keep trying to catch the puppies' mom.
