There are a lot of factors that go into choosing which college you or your child will attend and for many, safety is one of the biggest considerations.
According to a new report from SafeLight, four of the top thirty safest college towns are right here in Michigan.
SafeWise analysts considered the most recent FBI crime data from 2015 to rank these cities, calculated the total number of crimes committed in each city with at least one accredited, academic institution of higher learning, then weighed those numbers in relation to population numbers and other important factors.
Houghton, home to Michigan Tech. ranked 16th followed by Northern Michigan University's town of Marquette.
Mount Pleasant, home to the Chippewas placed 23rd on the list and raking 28th- Spartan Nation's city of East Lansing.
