SEBEWAING TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Update: Deputies say the body of a missing Tuscola County man has been found in the Sebewaing River, according to WJRT in Flint.
Michigan authorities say MSU student, 21-year-old Parker Haire of Cass City, was last heard from on New Year's Eve when he called 911 in Huron County.
Investigators say he may have been at a party earlier in the evening.
Haire reportedly told dispatchers he was cold, wet, and lost, also that he could see a factory.
Around midday Tuesday, a Michigan Sugar employee reported finding a vehicle stuck in mud near their treatment pond's fence.
The Huron County Sheriff's Office used cellphone signals to track Haire's location to Sebewaing Township.
Crews used boats and helicopters as they searched for him and suspended the search due to darkness Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, Haire was found in waist deep water surrounded by tall grasses around 8:35 AM.
Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson pointed out water temperatures were in the mid-30s and air temperatures dipped into the 20s. The human survival rate in those conditions generally is less than an hour.
Haire is listed on Michigan State's website as a junior studying actuarial science.
