Members of the Michigan National Guard are in the Upper Peninsula on Thursday helping repair the dozens of roads damaged in this month's flooding.
The state has asked the feds for help paying for the repairs which are expected to cost millions of dollars.
Many of the roads in Houghton County are impassible right now.
Multiple companies, along with the Michigan National Guard, have been working ten-hour shifts for the past five days on one road alone.
The National Guard says the support of the community has been great.
Cpl. Bowen Wilkinson said, "This is really the reason why a lot of us joined the guard, to help out our fellow Michiganders. I was more than happy to volunteer for this. I hope that somebody would come to my hometown if anything like this ever happened."
According to Houghton County officials, they've had such a great response for supply donations that they're overwhelmed.
The county is still asking for volunteers who will be needed as the clean-up efforts transition into recovery and reconstruction phases.
