Royal Oak native Jack Huffman is planning to walk from coast to coast in 100 days in 2019. Huffman plans to start at Newport Beach, Calif. and walk 2,500 miles to Tybee Island, Ga.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and it’s just now or never,” Jack Huffman said.

His wife Meg Huffman thankfully agreed.

“He’s been talking about this on and off for at least ten years,” Meg said. “So once I processed that we were doing it, then I’m on board 100 percent.”

Huffman has been training for months with encouragement from his coach, his 8-year-old son, Jimmy.

“I’ve got to make sure he get’s in his steps every day,” Jimmy said.

“It’s a lot of walking. Getting up really early at around 3 a.m.” Huffman said.

He walks around 20-30 miles prepay to train. To complete his journey in time, he will have to do 25 miles per day.
