WILLIAMSTON, Mich. — Waste Management says an employee discovered a body Friday while tipping a trash load at a facility in Williamstown Township. Meridian Township Police tell Fox 47 the deceased is a 36-year-old white male from Lansing. His identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
A company spokesperson told Fox 47 the Ingham County Sheriff's Department was notified immediately and is investigating the situation with full cooperation from its staff.
"We would like to extend our gratitude to the Waste Management team members and to the first responders who assisted at the scene," said Tanisha Sanders, a company spokesperson.
The facility where the body was found is located at 2450 East Grand River Ave., just outside Williamston. At about 2:45 p.m. Friday, Sanders said the facility was cleared to resume normal operations.
A Northeast Ingham Emergency Service Authority ladder truck was seen parked at the facility around 2 p.m. Friday. A NIESA official declined comment.
Meridian Township Police Lt. Rick Grillo told Fox 47 around noon Friday that police had started its investigation at the facility after it received reports about the body.
