Meridian Township Snow Emergency Announced

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Meridian Township Police Chief Ken Plaga has declared a snow emergency due to the inclement weather. The winter storm advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids for Ingham County is in effect until 7 pm this evening. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches expected, with winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute. Bitter cold wind chills of zero to 10 below are expected. Road clearing efforts are ongoing and residents are required to keep vehicles off the streets to assist with snow removal.

According to Charter Township of Meridian Ordinances Chapter 58-48 Declaration of Emergency: Any motor vehicle or trailer parked on any street within the Township shall be removed in accordance with the following schedule:

(1) Within six hours for any motor vehicle or trailer parked on state trunklines and streets designated as primary streets; and

(2) Within 24 hours for any motor vehicle or trailer parked on streets designated as local streets.

The Township snow emergency remains in effect until further notice.
