Meridian Township picks new fire chief

A new fire chief will soon be on the job in Meridian Township.

“I feel very blessed and honored to be offered the job. I am very excited to be joining this well organized and professional team,” said Mike Hamel. “I look forward to bringing the department to the next level,” stated Mike Hamel.

Mike Hamel brings 25 years of fire service experience to the township. He previously filled the role of Emergency Management and Continuity of Operations Manager for the Lansing Board of Water and Light after serving with the Lansing Fire Department from 1992-2016. He was Emergency Management Chief and Assistant Fire Chief there.

Officials at Meridian Township say they received 39 applications for the chief position.

Hamel will be presented before The Meridian Township Board for
consideration at the June 19th Meridian Township Board Meeting.

He is expected to begin in early July.
