Fowlerville High School was closed Tuesday and will be closed again Wednesday due to Mercury.
A statement by Superintendent Wayne Roedel on the Fowlerville Community School's website says that a teaspoon-sized mercury spill happened at the high school, though they cannot identify the source of the spill.
The statement from the superintendent says they "can only assume a student brought in a mercury switch of mercury from an old thermostat/thermometer as a novelty and it spilled on the floor."
The spill was discovered Monday, and the district brought in a service to clean the area.
A third party consultant is verifying that the area was cleaned and there is nothing in the air.
Results from the test are not expected back until sometime Wednesday, so the district has called off school for the high school building.
The Superintendent says the district will notify families on the status of school for Thursday, November 17, by 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Students should plan to have class at the high school on Thursday.
