A permanent memorial is being planned to honor the victims and survivors of a shooting spree in Kalamazoo one year ago.
The specifics of the memorial will be shared at a candlelight vigil on Feb. 20, the one-year anniversary of the incident. The vigil will also pay tribute to law enforcement and first responders.
After, the community will learn about the new Foreverstrong Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit created to honor the victims of the Kalamazoo shooting last February and the Kalamazoo bike crash last June.
Police say 45-year-old Jason Dalton allegedly went on a shooting rampage last year at an apartment complex, a car dealership and a Cracker Barrel. Six people died in the attacks, and two were shot but survived. Dalton is awaiting trial in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court on six open murder charges.
