Meijer to double match Simply Give donations

LANSING, Mich. — This higher demand comes from families who have school-aged children that would get free and reduced lunches, and sometimes breakfast, at school who are home on summer break.

In addition, food pantry donations also decrease because organizations such as church and school groups don't conduct food drives in the summer.

In 2017, it was estimated that one in eight Americans were food insecure, according to hungerandhealth.feedingamerica.org

Meijer has a program called Simply Give, which works to combat this problem. Simply Give cards are given to a local food pantry partner of each Meijer store to purchase items such as fresh food, baby food, diapers and wipes, to supplement box donations.

The public can help by purchasing a $10 Simply Give donation card at any Meijer to help local pantries and all contributions stay local for a food pantry in their community.

On May 31 and June 14, Meijer will double price match those public donations.
