LANSING, Mich. — Two companies were recognized for giving families a happier holiday at the State Capitol Wednesday.

Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley joined representatives from Meijer and Hormel to celebrate the 6,000 hams the companies donated to Michigan food banks. All of the hams will go to families in need this holiday season.

Phil Knight, Executive Director of Food Bank Council of Michigan said, "You don't have to live under that toxic stress of being food insecure. What am I gonna eat today? And what am I gonna give my kids? Donations like this takes hunger off the table and allows us to replace that with hope."

Last year, Michigan food banks distributed nearly 170 million pounds of food to people across the state.
