LANSING, Mich. — Lansing residents got the opportunity to have a meet and great with Acting Police Chief Darryl Green.

The event took place at the Cristo Rey Community Center on High Street in Lansing.

The meet and greet comes after Lansing Mayor Andy Schor's recommendation to appoint the acting chief to the position after over 20 years of service with the department.

Green was promoted to captain in 2012 and members in the community say he has the experience and the leadership skills to head the department.

"I met Chief Green when I was a victim's advocate for the Lansing Police Department and I think that he's going to do a fantastic job. He's kind, he's got more integrity than I've ever seen in an individual. I learned a lot from him when I was there and he's just got an all around good personality. I think he'll fit that position nicely. I can't think of any body better in line for it, really seriously," Heather Dahl, a Lansing resident said.
