A public hearing on a proposed medical marijuana ordinance in Lansing is happening tonight. Council members scheduled the hearing after passing a motion at a meeting last month. It's the city's first public hearing on medical marijuana in six years.
The council will get feedback from the community on an ordinance proposal that would regulate medical marijuana dispensaries. For more than a year, the council has been working on various ordinance drafts, but so far they haven't gotten anything to stick and that means new dispensaries are popping up without much regulation.
Tonight's meeting starts at 7 p.m. on the 10th floor of city hall. It is open to the public.
If passed a local ordinance marijuana dispensaries would coincide with state regulations created by a licensing board. Those regulations have not been created yet.
