Michigan's very own Medal of Honor Recipient James McCloughan spoke to National Guard soldiers at the Joint Force Readiness Center in Lansing.
Specialist McCloughan was a combat medic who fought in the Vietnam War.
His act of bravery came when he defended his men against Viet Cong forces while also treating soldiers.
McCloughan had a meet and greet with the soldiers before sharing some wisdom.
He is the first Medal of Honor recipient under President Donald Trump.
The last Medal of Honor recipient was Lieutenant Colonel Charles Kettles who was also from Michigan.
