First impressions are everything and the current intersection driving towards Jackson isn't making a good one.

"As you come off of Cooper Street right there on I-94 and you're coming into the city" said John Willis, Jackson City Community Coordinator. "That needs to look good, it needs to represent what we want people to think about our city."

Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is listening to the city of Jackson and it's residents on the improvements they want to see to I-94.

Wednesday, MDOT is discussing future construction along a 9 mile stretch of I-94 at an open house at the Commonwealth Center on East Washington Avenue in Downtown Lansing.

As Jackson's community coordinator, John Willis, has already been talking to homeowners on what they want the project to look like.

"A lot of people that I've spoken to and heard from are excited to see something different right there at Cooper Street." Willis said. "I think it's important to hear from the residents and here from the city and Blackman Township."

Part of the project, MDOT will be reconstructing some of the freeway and the cooper street interchange. MDOT is already working to make sure the transition is as seamless as possible.

"The maintaining traffic will be a big part of this project again that's part of the design that we're into right now." said Kari Arend of MDOT. "We can make these changes along I-94 along Cooper street but also maintain traffic during construction."

Along with Cooper Street and I-94, MDOT is looking towards to 2017 to replace the bridge over Grand River.

"So some big changes coming to I-94 that will go a long ways towards modernizing and improving the safety along the corridor" Arend said.

All of the road changes are ones that homeowners in Jackson are ready for.
