LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to install flashing lights at exit ramps to prevent deadly wrong way crashes.

The flashing lights will be installed at exit ramps on U.S. 131 in Kalamazoo and 1-194 in Battle Creek.

Those locations are heavy traffic areas with a history of crashes.

Bright LED lights will alert drivers when they are approaching the highway in the wrong direction.

in 2017, 13 people were killed in Michigan due to wrong way crashes.

A MDOT spokesperson says additional lights could be installed this year in Detroit and Grand Rapids.
