LANSING, Mich. — Labor Day travelers can look forward to easier travels this weekend thanks to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
MDOT will be removing 106 out of 151 projects statewide starting at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, and continuing until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.
This includes road and bridge projects that would otherwise make driving a little slower.
MDOT is doing this preemptively to ease traffic delays for holiday drivers.
While construction will be suspended in most zones over the weekend, drivers are advised that construction equipment and certain traffic configurations may remain in place, like temporary shifts or shoulder closures.
Local closures that are still in place:
- I-96 Ionia County, has traffic shifts in place near Cutler Road.
- M-66 in Lake Odessa, Ionia County, has the northbound lane closed between M-50 and I-96 with traffic detoured via M-50, Jordan Lake Road and Portland Road.
- I-69 Shiawassee County, has one lane open in each direction with traffic shifts from Bath Road to M-52.
