MDOT expects US-127 noise wall to be finished this fall

MDOT says the noise wall along northbound U.S. 127 in Lansing Township should be finished this fall, roughly one year after it was supposed to be done.

MDOT stopped work on the wall last year because of quality issues with panels that did not meet state standards. The contractor is getting caught up but MDOT won't restart the project until all the panels are finished.

"We don't want to move that barrier wall back out, impact traffic, start setting panels and then run out of panels again," MDOT construction engineer Greg Losch told wilx.com. "We wanna make sure we have enough panels to finish the project before we show up again."

The contract does allow the state to fine the builder for not getting done on time. MDOT will not get into specifics. Losch would only say fines are on the table. He says the delay will not cost the taxpayers any extra money.
